What Sets Super Duplex Stainless Steel Apart?
Super Duplex Steel is a high-performance material known for its exceptional corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.
Belonging to the Duplex Stainless Steel family, Super Duplex stands out from its Duplex Steel counterparts thanks to its enhanced alloy composition.
Brown McFarlane stocks Super Duplex Stainless Steel in two main grades, each with their own unique properties –
UNS S32750 (1.4410): Sourced exclusively from Western European steel manufacturers, grades S32750 (1.4410) are compatible with the branded 2507 designation. The material is enhanced with rigorous tests such as E562 microstructure analysis and corrosion testing to G48 or A293 Method C. This quality assurance testing guarantees a minimum of PREN 40 corrosion resistance.
UNS S32760 (1.4501): Offering the same quality and corrosion resisting certifications as S32750, S32760 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in aggressive environments, including those containing chlorides and sulphides. It is particularly well-suited for applications in chemical processing, oil and gas, and marine industries where corrosion is a critical factor.
The enhanced corrosion resistance of Super Duplex Steel translates to a longer lifespan for your components and structures, meaning that despite its premium qualities it actually presents a cost-effective solution in the long run, ensuring reduced maintenance and replacement costs.

Super Duplex vs. Standard Duplex
While both Super Duplex and standard Duplex Steels share some common features, the former outperforms the latter in terms of corrosion resistance, strength and durability.
Standard Duplex Stainless Steel is an excellent choice for less demanding environments, while Super Duplex shines in more challenging applications where exposure to harsh environments is common.
Super Duplex differs in chemical composition, being split roughly 50:50 between austenite and ferrite and featuring increased amounts of Molybdenum, Nickel, and Chromium.
This highly alloyed composition allows it to perform in aggressive environments whilst retaining mechanical strength.
Key Properties
Corrosion Resistance: Corrosion resistance is one of the decisive features that sets Super Duplex Steel apart as a superior material for various industrial applications, engineered to maintain structural integrity under harsh chemical exposure and remain robust even in environments where other materials might succumb to corrosion-induced degradation.
High Mechanical Strength: Super Duplex Steel boasts significantly high yield and tensile strength, crucial in applications where structural integrity and load-bearing capabilities are required. The high mechanical strength of Super Duplex Steel translates to increased resistance against wear, fatigue, and deformation.
Weldability: The weldability of Super Duplex Stainless Steel is a critical feature that enhances its appeal in various industries. Super Duplex Steel’s weldability provides flexibility in fabrication, allowing for the creation of complex structures and components that maintain structural integrity.
Versatility: From offshore platforms to chemical processing plants, Super Duplex Stainless Steel from Brown McFarlane proves its versatility by adapting seamlessly to the unique challenges posed by different industries. Its exceptional material properties make it an indispensable solution across a wide range of applications.
