More information
At Brown McFarlane, we offer the widest range of carbon and stainless steel plate, available ex-stock.
Designers are increasingly using 460 MPa yield plate to combine increased strength with savings in weight.
About EN 10025:3 S460NL Steel Plate
S460NL is a hot-rolled, high strength construction steel which is readily weldable and possesses good impact resistance, it is designed for use in demanding applications such as heavy engineering, offshore structures, and lifting equipment.
EN 10025-3 is a European standard that specifies technical delivery conditions for normalised/normalised rolled weldable fine grain structural steels. S460NL, in particular, has a minimum yield strength of 460 MPa at 16mm thick and below, making it a highly durable and reliable material for use in structural applications. This classification has specified minimum impact energy values at temperatures not lower than -50 deg C (NL).
As well as S460NL we are stockists of plates to EN 10025:3 S460N.
-
The designation of the EN 10025:3 standard for S460NL shows that this is steel for structural purposes (S), with a minimum yield strength of 460 MPa (460) at 16mm thick and below. This classification has specified minimum impact energy values at temperatures not lower than -50 deg C (NL).
As well as S460NL we are stockists of plates to EN 10025:3 S460N.
Applications
- Bridges
- Grouted tees/grouted sleeves
- Pipe caps/pipe fittings

Key Benefits
We offer additional benefits and services to customers beyond supplying high-quality S460NL steel plates, these include –
- Cutting plates to the optimum size is an important service that can save customers time and money on their projects. Brown McFarlane’s ability to provide excellent weldability with a CEV of 0.50% max (up to 30mm) and CEV of 0.53% max (over 30mm) also adds value to customers who need to weld the steel plates.
- The high strength to weight ratio of S460NL steel plates is a significant advantage that can help reduce the overall weight of components in a project. This can result in cost savings, improved efficiency, and easier handling and installation.
- The guaranteed minimum yield strength of 450N/mm2 (<=50mm) is an assurance of the high-quality and reliability of our steel plates. The fully accredited quality systems to ISO 9001, 14001, and 18001 also provide additional confidence to customers that they are receiving top-notch products and services.
- Finally, the ability to deliver worldwide through an international logistics organisation is a crucial aspect for customers who need to source materials from different regions.
